Parents' Corner --

             Gifted and Talented

Become an academic partner of parent, teacher, administrator, counselor and student.

 ·          Lobby for specialized classes to meet the academic and talent needs of gifted and talented students.

 ·          Lobby for specialized training for teachers, because no child should have to ask a teacher “why didn’t you teach this to me earlier?”

 ·          Lobby for specialized trained/certified resource personnel and teachers available for high school secondary students.

 ·          Join a gifted organization for advocacy support.

 ·          Don’t let kids slide through school without truly working. A strong work ethic (not busy work) will be what helps them through college.

 ·          Watch for signs of stress and/or depression.

 ·          Watch out for the negative repercussions of perfectionism.

Work Ethic and Integrity:
We don't do our children any favors if we make life too easy for them. It is your child's job to do his/her work, turn it on time and to ask questions. It is your job to drive them where they need to go--library, etc.; make sure he/she has a library card; bring them cookies and hot chocolate at midnight. Your job is NOT to do their science fair projects, homework or research for them. Remember, we teach by example.
