AD/HD and/or LD
Labels are
often difficult to deal with. They are so difficult in fact, that a label might
keep a family from seeking help. Obtaining the appropriate supportive personnel
and strategies for your teen depends upon documentation and an official
diagnosis.
AD/HD
or LD are not due to a parental or moral deficiency. It is a condition that just
exists in your child. Seeking help will enable your teen to obtain what he/she
needs to fulfill his/her potential. With this assistance and support, kids learn
coping skills that allow them to succeed. There are careers that can be matched
to your teen’s strengths. With a correct diagnosis, a lot of the negativity
associated with the AD/HD or LD disappears. Your teen isn’t lazy, stubborn,
stupid, brain damaged, bad, etc.
The
different “wiring” of AD/HD or LD often allows these kids have a sixth sense
in experiences. Learning coping skills through proper modalities, lets this
sixth sense be nurtured. Your child can learn to capitalize on his/her
strengths.
