SAFETY ISSUES

Physical

     Be aware of your surroundings.

     Don't give out your key or passcode(s).

     Report anything or anyone that makes you uncomfortable or
     uneasy.

     Keep your doors locked.

    Know where the emergency call boxes are located on campus.

    Know where campus security offices are located.

    Don't share drinks! If you lose track of your drink at a party,
    pitch it rather than drink it! You don't know if or what has
    been added to your drink while you weren't looking.

 

Crime

    Keep your belongings locked up.

    Lock or chain your computer, if at all possible.

    Keep your bike chained and locked.

    Report any crime as soon as it happens.
 
 
Drugs, Alcohol & other addictives

    Overindulgence of alcohol can not only cause a hangover and
    reports of embarrassing behaviors the next day, but when mixed
    with cars or tempers can lead to violence or injury/death.

    Binge drinking causes deaths.

    Drugs are illegal. They can not only addictive, but can cause a
    police record and any possible degree you are trying to earn.

    Gambling is  one of the newer areas of addictive behavior
    sweeping college campuses. Debt and ignoring class work are
    two of the possible issues with this addiction.
 
Driving Safety

FIRE
   Wherever you are, know your fire escape route.

   Candles in crowded dorm rooms are incredibly dangerous and most of the time are outlawed in the dorms.

    Know where fire extinguishers are located in your dorm.

   Know where the fire alarms are in your dorm.

 

Harrassment

Harrassment is illegal.
 

Common Sense

If there were a course to gain common sense, it would be a best seller! If this area is not your strong point, pay special attention to  your own safety issues.
 
 

     Shred all materials that have your
           personal information on it.
     Don't give out your social security or
           credit card numbers unless you
           are 100% sure of the recipient.
     Don't leave your credit cards, etc. out
           in your dorm room.
    Don't sign up for credit cards, etc.
          when someone calls your dorm
          room. So be careful when you
         answer your phone on those
          mornings after a late night.
    If you lose your ID/credit cards by
         any reason, notify the appropriate
         agencies ASAP.
